Sung Ok Han
Sung Ok Han, microbial biotechnologist, graduated from University of Sydney and received the Ph.D. degree in 1998 on his biochemical and molecular studies of microorganisms. From 1999, Dr. Han have diverse research experience as a researcher at several places (Dept. of Microbiology/Petroleum Engineering, University of Oklahoma, Norman; and Section of Molecular and Cellular biology, University of California, Davis, USA) and continued to work on the enzymology and gene regulation of microbial biosynthesis as a senior researcher at Molecular Microbiology and Biotechnology Group, Research Institute of Innovative Technology for the Earth, Japan. In 2007, Dr. Han was appointed as Professor at School of Life Sciences and Biotechnology, Korea University. Professor Han’s current research activities focus on three topics: i) study of systematic molecular microbiology for biosynthetic chemicals and functional materials from biobased feedstock; ii) developing biomass and syngas utilization by using novel enzymological techniques; and iii) design and construct industrial super strains for consolidated bioprocessing. Recently he has published more than 100 SCI journal papers for studies of metabolic/enzyme engineering, synthetic biology and industrial microbiology.
