Christopher Heath
Clin. A/Prof. Christopher Heath, MB BS, FRACP, FRCPA, MASM. Christopher is Head of the Infectious Diseases Service at Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) & SMHS. He is a Senior Consultant Infectious Diseases Physician & Clinical Microbiologist at Royal Perth Hospital, & Clinical A/Professor in the School of Medicine & Pharmacology, at the University of Western Australia. He is a past Chair of the Australian & New Zealand Mycology Special Interest Group, of the Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases. His clinical work and research activities are broad including clinical mycology, infectious in the immunocompromised host (including HIV, ICU and BMTU patients), mycobacterial infections especially leprosy and tuberculosis, infections in refugees (and migrants), hospital epidemiology and infection control programs, infections in burns and major trauma patients, and multi-resistant organisms and antimicrobial stewardship programs. His laboratory interests are broad including diagnostic and research in basic mycology, rapid diagnosis of infectious disease using molecular techniques, and rapid screening techniques for detection of carriers of multi-resistant organisms (MRO’s), such as MRSA, VRE, and multi-drug resistant Gram-negative bacteria.
