Genomic surveillance has been increasingly utilised to detect outbreaks and enhance infection prevention and control in healthcare settings. However, several challenges must be addressed for effective implementation, ranging from resolving the bioinformatics bottleneck to streamlining data reporting and management, as well as its visualisation. In this talk, I will discuss challenges in the visualisation aspects and share some of our approaches and platforms that we developed, such as HAIviz (https://haiviz.fordelab.com/) for local outbreak visualisation and GraphSNP (https://graphsnp.fordelab.com/) for cluster analysis. The functionality of these tools will be outlined through case studies on the genomic epidemiology of Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VREfm) from hospitals in Queensland, Australia.
