From 2022 there was an increase in reports of ceftriaxone resistant and extensively drug Neisseria gonorrhoeae, both nationally and internationally. The World Health Organization reports that antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance data for N gonorrhoeae are very limited; particularly from settings where disease rates are highest. Recent findings strongly suggest ceftriaxone resistant and extensively drug Neisseria gonorrhoeae are in the Region. This presentation includes the findings of the Australian Gonococcal Surveillance Programme and the WHO Gonococcal Antimicrobial Surveillance System.
